Water and Sanitation Issues in Cambodia

Access to safe water in Cambodia is a major challenge for the majority of the population. According to UN and UNICEF data, 72% of households in Cambodia lack access to a safely managed water supply. The situation in schools is also serious, with 22% of schools having no water service and 37% lacking access to sanitation of any kind.

Planet Water
Foundation In Cambodia

Planet Water Foundation has been active in Cambodia since 2009, and deployed over 420 clean water projects during this time, providing access to clean, safe water to over 640,000 people.

Our work includes the deployment of over 300 AquaTower water filtration systems which have been deployed in elementary schools in every province of the country in conjunction with our water health and hygiene education program. Together, our solutions are helping to bring clean, safe water access to students, teachers and members of the communities surrounding our project sites.

Currently, our focus is on clean water projects in Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Speu, Kandal, and Siem Reap Provinces.

I'm really happy because from now on, our school has safe drinking water for everyone. I no longer have to carry water from home. Instead, I can bring clean water from the AquaTower to our house.
Chamroeun Vichea - 6th Grade Student
Our school has many challenges in terms of access to clean drinking water, handwashing facilities and sanitation. Our students spend time fetching water from the borehole well despite its poor quality. Because of this project, the children can now focus on studying, playing and enjoying their childhood.
