In early October 2020, an extreme typhoon and rainfall in Cambodia caused unprecedented deadly floods and landslides. In the worst-hit province of Banteay Meanchey, over 4,200 families were forced to evacuate int makeshift tents positioned on the main highway which are elevated above their flooded villages. Access to food, water, and basic sanitation was a major struggle for these families.

Under the direction of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial authorities, Planet Water’s Cambodia team mobilized the water supply systems in the Bot Trang and Se Soen emergency encampments in Banteay Meanchey.

When we first arrived at this safety camp, we encountered issues with lack of access to water, electricity and latrines. We are lucky that we have Electrolux supporting this clean drinking water system in this critical situation otherwise we would have to find a way to pay for clean water or boil water by ourselves."

After training the Provincial Emergency Response teams on system operations, the Planet Water team officially handed over the two systems on Monday, November 2nd, where they will continue to provide access to clean and safe drinking water to families in need.
