Following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake which struck Chocó, Colombia, widespread devastation hit the country’s western regions. More than 100 fatalities and hundreds of injuries were reported, with homes, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure sustaining significant damage.
With widespread damage and disruption affecting essential services, access to safe drinking water immediately became a critical challenge for impacted communities.
Planet Water Foundation worked on the ground in the affected region to provide support. Our work started with assessing conditions, and coordinating with local partners to identify the communities most in need of support.
This was then followed with the deployment of high-capacity water filtration systems in five communities - providing capacity to support up to 14,000 people with safe drinking water.
