A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck Chocó, Colombia, causing widespread devastation across the country’s western regions. More than 100 fatalities and hundreds of injuries have been reported, with homes, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure sustaining significant damage.

Aftershocks continue as search-and-rescue operations remain underway, and authorities are still assessing the full extent of the disaster. With widespread damage and disruption affecting essential services, access to safe drinking water is expected to become a critical challenge for impacted communities.

Planet Water Foundation is preparing to mobilize a team to the affected region to assess conditions, coordinate with local partners, and deploy water-filtration systems to communities in urgent need.
