Planet Water Foundation has deployed AquaSafe Water Filter & Hygiene Stations across locations in Nepal where communities have been devastated by the catastrophic flash floods which took place on August 26. The floods damaged homes, roads, bridges and essential infrastructure, forcing families from their communities and disrupting water supplies. For those living in temporary shelters, access to safe drinking water remains a critical need as they begin the long process of recovery.
With roads and bridges damaged or washed away, reaching some communities required crossing rivers using ziplines and makeshift ropeways. Meanwhile, AquaSafe systems were air-shipped to Kathmandu and prepared for distribution as government clearances, customs processing and local permits were secured.
Deployments began at Barachautara Holding Center in Nuwakot District, where families displaced primarily from Rasuwa District were sheltering. Many had lost homes and livelihoods, while damaged transport routes prevented their safe return. AquaSafe systems enabled families to filter locally available spring or well water for their daily drinking needs.
Our team also supported Lamibagaicchha Holding Center, where displaced families were living in temporary tents behind a school. Families had initially sheltered in classrooms before lessons resumed and were relying on donated bottled water and nearby spring and borewell sources.
A third deployment supported Gerkhutar, where a community and church were providing shelter and distributing food and relief supplies. The site supported displaced families and volunteers assisting surrounding communities. With spring supplies disrupted and bottled-water donations insufficient to meet daily needs, AquaSafe systems provide a source of safe drinking water for families and responders. Across these locations, the portable systems are helping families use available water sources as temporary shelter and recovery efforts continue.
