Planet Water Foundation's Disaster Response team is on the ground in Indonesia responding to the devastating Sumatra floods which have caused over 900 fatalities.
With Medan as a temporary base, our team met with first responders and conducted detailed site assessments in advance of deploying high capacity water filtration systems to provide urgent support with safe water for communities who have been impacted.
Planet Water Foundation's water emergency water filtration systems were transported into the region in paraellel. Upon arrival, deployment of the systems began immediately, to provide much needed support with safe water.
Deployments have been focused in Aceh Tamiang, with the deployment of two AquaBlock systems. The first system was deployed in the grounds of Kampung Perdamaian Mosque and the second system was deployed at Kota Lintang Mosque. Both AquaBlocks are positioned to serve a large number of people and maximize community access.
This was followed by the deployment of an AquaTower water filtration system at Kota Kuala Simpang Temple - a key relief distribution point located along the highway. Community members gather here to receive donated food and bottled water, which is limited. With the installation of the AquaTower, this community now has a reliable source of safe drinking water, supporting recovery efforts during this difficult time.
An additional AquaTower water filtration system was deployed at Dusun Nyiur Mesa Seunebok, where it is now providing much-needed access to clean drinking water for flood-affected families. Due to the area’s distance from the highway and impassable roads, the community previously had no choice but to collect drinking water directly from a contaminated well. This response was made possible thanks to the support of our partners Harita Nickel, The Starbucks Foundation, Watts Water, and Xylem.
Planet Water Foundation’s AquaBlock Emergency Water System provides clean, safe drinking water access when needed most in the wake of emergencies and natural disasters.
