Responding to Disaster: Bringing Safe Water to Communities in the Philippines In the aftermath of Typhoon Bualoi (Opong) and the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu, the Planet Water Foundation Disaster Response Team has been working tirelessly to bring safe drinking water to communities impacted by these events.
Mobilizing in the Wake of Disaster When Typhoon Bualoi (Opong) made landfall, it left widespread destruction across Masbate Province — damaging homes, displacing families, and disrupting access to basic necessities like clean water. In response, Planet Water Foundation immediately mobilized its Disaster Response Team to coordinate with local authorities and first responders to assess needs and deliver critical support.
Delivering Safe Water to Masbate Within days, Planet Water teams arrived in Masbate, conducting rapid assessments in heavily impacted areas. AquaBlock emergency water filtration systems were quickly dispatched and installed in the communities of Mobo, Baleno, and Milagros, where many families were left without electricity or access to safe water. These systems are now providing thousands of people with clean drinking water — a vital first step in helping families begin to rebuild their lives and protect their health during recovery efforts.
Rapid Response, Powered by Partnership This rapid and coordinated response was made possible through the generous support of Planet Water Foundation’s partners - Capital One Philippines, Watts Water Technologies, and Xylem - whose contributions enabled immediate action when communities needed it most.
Standing Together for Recovery in Cebu Concurrently our team mobilized to Cebu following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake which shook the province on September 30. After identifying deployment sites, water filtration systems were transported into the disaster zone to provide support safe water access to those impacted by the disaster.
The Planet Water team deployed AquaTower water filtration systems in Barangay Antipolo in Medellin and Barangay Poblacion in San Remigio, bringing clean, safe drinking water to families in need. A third AquaTower was installed at Simeon Miranda Elementary School, where evacuees from Barangay Luy-a, Medellin, are currently taking shelter. This system not only provides essential water access during the crisis but will continue to benefit the students and school community once classes resume, offering a lasting impact long after the emergency subsides. Access to clean water brings stability, hope, and resilience in times of crisis, helping communities rebuild and recover together.
