Water and Sanitation Issues in Peru

Access to safe water in Peru is a challenge for a significant proportion of the country’s population of 34 million people. According to UN and UNICEF data, 49% of households in Peru lack access to a safely managed water supply and 47% lack safe sanitation. The situation in schools is also serious, with 15% of schools having no water service and 20% lacking access to basic sanitation.

Planet Water
Foundation In Peru

Planet Water Foundation’s work in Peru commenced in 2022 with the objective of addressing the issues around access to safe drinking water in the country.

Our work is focused on the deployment of our AquaTower water filtration systems which
we have begun to deploy in elementary schools in Peru in conjunction with our water health and hygiene education program. Together, our solutions are helping to bring clean, safe water access to students, teachers and members of the communities surrounding our project sites.

Currently, our focus is on clean water projects in Lima.

Due to the lack of clean water sources, our children drink water from the tap despite its poor quality. This results in frequent absenteeism that affects their overall well being. Having an AquaTower means better health for the village. We can now reinforce healthy and hygienic practices not just to our students but also to their families.

Our children and their family members will greatly benefit from this project. Thanks to Starbucks for helping our community. I hope that more water-impoverished schools in Peru can receive this gift of clean water as well.
